St. Kitts and Nevis

stkitts-2-1-revbMilitaryFares.com’s travel destination for this article is The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis.  Saint Kitts, as it is commonly referred to, is a Caribbean country that gained its independence relatively recently in September 1983.  With clear skies, blue water and a pleasant temperature—it is a travel destination to visit any time of the year for a well-deserved vacation getaway.  The average year round temperature is 80 degrees; with highs around 90 in the summer and lows inSt Kitts and Nevis the 70’s during the winter.

The Lesser Antilles Island country is easily accessible by land and sea.  So whether you want to fly or cruise, it won’t matter – the choice is yours!  Flights into the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) from Miami, New York, Atlanta and Charlotte are some of the non-stop locations that should be available.  Of course, connection flights are available from elsewhere too.  The island international airport is only 2 miles outside Basseterre, the capital city.  By sea you can get there by many of the favored cruise ships.   Basseterre, is a featured port of call for several cruise liners including:  Holland America, Carnival, Celebrity Cruises, Seabourn and the Royal Caribbean.

Once you arrive at St. Kitts, you’ll see that there should be plenty to do; and did you know that there are two islands at this one destination?  From St. Kitts, you’ll have easy access to its sister island, Nevis.  They are separated by only a 2-mile wide channel.  So, day trips by ferry, water taxi or other creative means will be easy and add to your adventure!  You will have 68 square miles to explore.  Golfing, dining, hiking, swimming, and biking are only a few of the many activities you can and probably will enjoy during your stay.  You want more detail?  I’m glad you asked!

If you are a golfer, you should know that St. Kitts has one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful and challenging courses.  Yes, as of the writing of this article, St. Kitts only has one 18-hole course; but very nice.  The Royal St. Kitts Golf Club features a scenic 125-acre course with 2 complete holes on the Caribbean Sea and three others on the Atlantic Ocean.  Identified as a par 71 course, it is considered to be challenging enough for a pro, but enjoyable enough for the beginner as well.

Along with the golfing and other activities we’ve mentioned, you should know that St. Kitts has a rich history as well.  So, if you are a history buff, there is a lot there for you too!  From riding on the “Sugar Train, to visiting a 300 year-old Saman tree at Romney Manor, to staying at one of the many unique converted inns on the island.

Last but not least, it is a great location for celebrations!  If you want a beautiful place to celebrate a wedding, honeymoon or anniversary—add St. Kitts to your list.  St. Kitts has no residency requirement and only a minimum of official procedures.  Normally birth certificates, two forms of government-issued photo I.D. and verification confirming the couples single status is enough to get you married.

Now that you have heard about St. Kitts and Nevis, do you think that is enough to make you want to go?  “I do.” 😉   So, if you are in the military and you make that decision to go—as always, visit us at http://www.MilitaryFares.com to book your next travel!
