Somebody Went to Palm Springs

Hey, somebody went to Palm Springs, California… and so are we.  Yes, this time MilitaryFares will take a look at Palm Springs, Cali—a great spot to visit during the winter months!  Now known for its golf courses, night life and festivals, Palm Springs also played a key role in military and American history.

The first residents of what is now known as Palm Springs were the ancestors of today’s Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.  Since that time, very interesting and complicated turn of events have happened in the area and to its residents.  You can read about that history here:  History of Palm Springs.

The military connection with the area occurred during World War II.  During that time, the area became a training area for troops when the military units under General George S. Patton were preparing to invade North America; and the famous El Mirador Hotel became Torney General Hospital, used to treat U.S. wounded.

After the war era, the Palm Springs area began to grow tremendously.  The once well-kept secret of the Hollywood elite, and wealthy was becoming a tourist attraction.  The great climate and beautiful weather made it a great place to visit year-round.   On the Visit Palm Springs site, it is said that Palm Springs has more than 350 days of sunshine a year.  With only 365 and ¼ day in a year, that is amazing!  With that much sunshine and temperatures ranging on average between 40 and 70 degrees, it’s not hard to see why it is such a favorite place to visit.

Many people come to learn about all the movie stars that did and still do hang out there.  Others come to participate in many of the activities in the area.  Golfing, hiking, fishing, biking, swimming and tennis are only a few of the outdoor activities that people enjoy.  And still, others come to attend many of the events that are now hosted in the area like the Palm Springs Film Festival, The Palm Springs Dance Fest, or try their luck at one of the gaming casinos.   It is also centrally located between Los Angeles and San Diego (about a 2-hour drive to either location) and The Marine Corps Base, 29 Palms, is about an hour away, so if visitors wanted to take a quick trip out of the area to the beach or check out the base, it would be totally do-able.

So how do you get there?  You can always drive, being that it’s a destination in the continental U.S.A.   But, they also have a world-class International Airport (Palm Springs International Airport).  They have daily flights available throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Need tickets?  Check out our web site!  MilitarFares.com has great deals on flights.  We also can help with car reservations and accommodations.  As you can see in the snapshot below, we have helped many travelers get tickets to their destinations at very affordable prices.  As you may know, we have partnered with the Priceline network to get you the best prices available.  So please visit our site often and contact us through the Site Chat or Support Number to see what we can do to help you!  Safe Travels!
