Veterans Day is a day to celebrate Veterans and the service they provide. Many businesses and restaurants participate by offering discounts and free goods and services to veterans. In this Veterans Day post, we’ll take a look at some of the values offered to Veterans in honor of their service. But, before we do, let’s take a quick look at the history of this day.
Originally celebrated as Armistice Day, November 11th was first celebrated to honor World War I Soldiers. For on the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month in 1918, the Allied Nations and Germany reached a Cease-Fire. Americans were encouraged to celebrate the day with parades and other forms of celebration. In 1954, the name was officially changed to Veterans Day so that all military personnel could be honored. All across the nation, stores are participating in the celebration of Veterans Day. In a quick search on the internet, I found that the Military.com site had several items listed that you might want to take an advantage of. For instance, if you are traveling to New York, veterans w
ill receive free 9/11 Museum admission for themselves and discounted tickets for up to two family members from November 9th to November 13th. The Army Corp of Engineers are waiving day use fees for veterans, and their families at Engineer operated recreation areas nationwide on November 11th. If you are in the Birmingham, AL area, the Birmingham Zoo is offering free admission November 11-13, 2016 to all retired military, veterans and their dependents. And, if you are traveling to Colonial Williamsburg, Military families can receive a free admission ticket for November 11-14, 2016.
Along with all the aforementioned deals, there are plenty of food values available too. Some of the popular ones are those from Denny’s, Hooters, and Outback. There are many other locations offering breakfast, lunch and dinner deals. Visiting the Military.com site mentioned earlier is a great place to start your search. Most places are offering the deals on Veteran’s Day only, but there are a few businesses that extend discounts throughout the weekend.
Take the time to search for deals in your area. In order to receive discounts or services, you may have to show your ID. If you are going to take advantage of some of the free breakfasts or other deals, it may be smart to call the location you plan to go to so that you can both make sure they are honoring the deals and that you can be served within a reasonable time.
